Just me suddenly posing for an impromptu photo where I completely missed the positioning of the chord I was playing. Haha
As she sat there with this incredible opportunity, so close that she could almost touch it… she felt the nudging to wait… she felt the nudging to trust… she felt the nudging to “stand still.” It became clear to her that it was a ‘not quite yet’ moment that God wanted her to wrestle with, reminding her once again that His timing, His ways, and His purposes are worth waiting for. She took a breath… and chose the uncomfortable option of waiting. Despite knowing that this was a door God was opening, the door was only just beginning to open. She needed to trust the process of unsettling, in order to grow her understanding and knowledge of what God was actually calling her to.
So, once again, she waits, knowing that at the perfect moment, God will show her the next step… maybe not exactly the way she would have thought, but… better than she could have imagined.
Have you ever been asked to lay down a dream before the Lord? Not knowing whether you would ever be able to pick it up again?
I have found myself needing to answer a similar question in the past week. I felt a call from the Lord to lay a specific dream down before Him and trust His timing. I had to choose to say, I trust You. I trust that even if this dream never comes to fruition, You matter more to me.
Choosing to say, “even if I have to give ‘this’ up, I will… not that it’s easy, but because I still want You more.”
That’s tough…
I think, often God puts us in these positions, not that He is necessarily taking that dream away, but rather, it’s about the waiting. In His story unfolding within us, are we still willing to trust His process? I think it also has a lot to do with our heart posture toward Him. Is this dream for my satisfaction, or is this for His kingdom’s purposes?
It’ about coming to the Father as we are and saying, Lord, how do you want me to approach this situation (…this dream).
He might very well choose to open up that dream, hope, desire, but it will be Him opening that door, not us forcing our way through the small gap.
This week, I was reminded that the world tells us, “Don’t just stand there. Do something.” But often Jesus says, “don’t just do something. Stand there.”
“Stand there…. Wait... trust… breath… and then do that all again… until… you come to Me… and until I am your only security.”
Laying down a dream before the Lord is a way that we say, we trust You, Lord… Your will, Your timing… we surrender.
Are you willing to lay it down?
Can you say that? Is He worth more to you than any desire? Any dream? Is He your sole motivation?
I hope we can all say:
“You are worth more to me, Jesus.”
I pray that these words hit home. I know these words have been for me just as much as I hope they can be a source of comfort, knowing that you are not alone. These words have brought me to my knees before the Lord, and I hope that they take you deeper as well.
