the comfort of living in the known...

Accepting the surrendered life in our calling. What does that even mean?

It means that often God guides us into a certain direction (into our calling), yet we remain unaware of the full plan in which we are supposed to pursue that calling. We are reminded in these times that we hold no control over it. He holds it all.

Pursuing our calling requires trust in God and a whole lot of faith.

My friend, there is so much more to life than the comfort of living in the known.

Life is a mystery, and when we are finally willing to accept the surrendered life of our calling, there is so much freedom. We are called as children of the living God to be a light and to bring Him glory, but we also have specific callings that have been placed in us by God.

When we live in surrender, it means we leave room for God to be God and for Him to use us where He sees fit. I’ve come to cherish both the moments of uncertainty and new revelations. Because it’s in those moments where I feel the closest to the Father… Where I sense His presence near… and it’s a reminder that He is personal. God reminds us that He is all-knowing… That He is with us on this journey of life, which in the end, leads back to Him.

We were destined for more than comfortable lives… for more than the expected.

We were destined to ‘show’ Jesus to everyone around us in all that we do. And that no matter what our specific callings are, we are called to be His light. Isn’t it the most wonderful thing we can do? I mean, we have been given this beautiful life of freedom because of Jesus, and now we get to go out and share Jesus’ light (which is now within us) to those around us in so many different ways using our gifts? I don’t know what could be better than that.

Living a surrendered life means, “Here I am! Send me” (Isaiah 6:8). Sometimes that looks like going to a specific place or perhaps that is just a reminder to say in the day-to-day, “Lord, I am here, how would You like to use me today to bring glory to You in all that I do.”

I am yours, nothing more and nothing less.

Your sister,

Jessie Steenkamp
